The Gist

Scientists at Unilever have found that blue light emitted by electronic devices ages skin prematurely.

The List

  • The scientists found that 5 days of screen time on mobile phones and computers is equal to roughly 25 minutes in direct sunlight.
  • Blue light from electronic devices has been shown to disturb sleep by inhibiting melatonin, a hormone the body releases before bed.
  • The Unilever study also found that a majority of people spend more than 6 hours per day using a device which emits blue light.
  • The cosmetics giant recommends reducing screen time and using skincare products when necessary.
