California asks Australia and Canada for help as wildfires grow

The Gist

As firefighters struggled to cope with immense blazes, the state's governor G. Newsom asked for assistance from Canada and Australia. 

The List

  • More than 12,000 firefighters are currently battling California's wildfires, which have already killed 6 people. 
  • There are hundreds of active fires, most of them were sparked by more than 12,000 bolts of lightning - 1 million acres have burned down already.  
  • The 314,000-acre LNU Lightning Complex and the 291,000-acre SCU Lightning Complex are some of the biggest wildfires in the state's history. 
  • 175,00 California's residents were forced to flee their homes. 
  • California's governor Newsom asked for help from the "world's best wildfire-fighters" in Australia.
