Twitter to remove misleading coronavirus tweets

The Gist

Twitter has broadened its COVID-19 guidelines to remove malicious tweets about the virus which cause panic, social unrest, disorder, and/or calls for illegal action 

The List

  • The initial COVID-19 policy was introduced on March 18th, following a pledge to combat rumors about the virus on the platform
  • The change in breadth comes after 5G cellular towers were set on fire in Britain 
  • Twitter has removed 2230 tweets over the last month
  • Google, Facebook, Microsoft, LinkedIn, and YouTube also pledged to fight misinformation on March 16th
