Uber and Lyft may become unavailable in California

Both Uber and Lyft have threatened to cease operations in the state after their appeal of a recent court decision was rejected. 

The List

  • A California judge recently ruled that Uber and Lyft must classify their drivers as insured employees rather than independent contractors. 
  • Uber and Lyft appealed the decision but their appeals have been rejected. 
  • Both companies have threatened to leave the state on August 20th, the date which the new ruling is set to take effect. 
  • The state of New York is also considering similar legislation.
